WHAT IS FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST™) is a table-based, assisted stretching system that targets the fascia (the connective tissue that wraps every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in your body). Unlike traditional stretching, FST works with entire fascial lines rather than isolated muscles, producing results you simply cannot achieve on your own.

Fascia is the 3D web of connective tissue that holds your entire body together. When it becomes tight, stiff, or restricted, everything suffers.

FST was developed in 1966 by Ann and Chris Frederick and is taught worldwide through the Stretch to Win Institute. It combines traction, oscillation, and circumduction to gently open joint space, release fascial adhesions, and calm an overactive nervous system while you relax on a treatment table.

The result? Less pain, more mobility, and a body that moves the way it should. FST works with finesse, not force and it’s completely pain-free by design.

WHAT TO EXPECT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you’re searching for fascial stretch therapy in Waterloo, our team frequently answers the following questions about injury recovery, treatment options, and FST care.

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST™) is a table-based, assisted stretching system that targets the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding every muscle, joint, and organ). A certified FST therapist uses traction, oscillation, and guided movement to release restrictions in the fascial network, reduce pain, and restore full range of motion.

Fascia is the continuous 3D web of connective tissue that holds your entire body together. When healthy, it allows smooth, effortless movement. When restricted, due to injury, surgery, repetitive movement, or prolonged inactivity, it limits range of motion, causes pain, and creates compensatory patterns throughout the body. Because fascia is continuous, one restriction often creates a chain reaction of pain far from the original problem area.

No. FST works with “finesse, not force.” The therapist works gradually with your nervous system’s natural relaxation response to allow tissue to release and joints to open. Most clients find sessions deeply relaxing. Pain is not part of the process. If anything feels uncomfortable, your therapist will adjust immediately.

Regular stretching targets individual muscles in isolation. FST targets entire fascial lines (the continuous chains of connective tissue that run through the whole body). This produces significantly greater range of motion gains and addresses root causes rather than symptoms. Unlike massage, clients remain clothed, and the focus is on joint mobility and fascial release rather than soft tissue pressure.

Many clients notice meaningful improvements after the very first session. A minimum of 3 sessions is recommended to achieve lasting results, as the fascial system needs repeated input to reorganize and maintain new movement patterns. After an initial series, maintenance sessions can be scheduled as needed, monthly for most active clients.

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing — tights, shorts, sweatpants, a t-shirt, or a tank top all work well. No oils or lotions are applied, and clothing stays on throughout the entire session.

FST sessions performed by a Kinesiologist may be eligible for coverage under extended health plans that include kinesiology benefits or through a Health Spending Account. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking with your provider in advance. We provide receipts for all sessions to support insurance reimbursement.
